University of Louisville Suzuki Piano Institute

Monday, June 18 - Friday, June 22, 2012

The University of Louisville School of Music is proud to host one of the longest running Suzuki institutes in the United States. Now in its 34th year, the week-long summer workshop has a rich history of providing training for Suzuki teachers and families, many of whom return year after year, developing deep friendships in the process. The Institute is founded on the teaching ideals of the late Dr. Haruko Kataoka, world-wide authority on Suzuki Method, founder of Piano Basics, and our master teacher each summer for nearly two decades.

Mission Statement

The Institute provides a week of research for teachers, parents, and students to come together in order to strengthen the quality of Suzuki piano education.

Goals

  1. To increase teachers' and parents' understanding of the wonderful nature of children and how they learn.

  2. To enrich teachers' playing abilities so as to provide the best possible model for students.

  3. To develop students' playing abilities, reading skills, and overall musicianship.

  4. To encourage and equip parents to be successful helpers at home.

  5. To do all of this in a serious, but festive and encouraging atmosphere that motivates all concerned to experience the exciting world of music.
